The Daybreakers by Louis L’Amour

Louis L'Amour is arguably my husbands favorite author. When I was prompted to read a western for class...it was a no brain-er that it would be one of his. Now this was on the shorter side of his collection, and while I initially had a hard time getting into the rhythm of his writing, eventually I was flying through it. The book is written from the point of view of Tyrel, one of the middle Sackett brothers. It was written as though he was talking to you, so it had a log of colloquial language that was initially hard to get the flow of. Time on the western frontier happens a little differently and that really came through in the writing. For example, the brothers were going down to capture and return with wild cattle to sell. At the end of that chapter, three years had elapsed.

This is one of 7 Sackett novels by LAmour or True Gritt and Lonesome. dove would also be similar reads.
